When we first experienced Isle of Arran holidays we immediately fell in love with the place, in particular we were very impressed with Kildonan on the southern end of Arran and we purchased a lovely historic property there, a former church, which we now offer to the world as Isle of Arran holiday accommodation – this is a self catering apartment on Arran that would be a great alternative for those who usually look for holiday cottages on Arran. The apartment offers everything that is great about Isle of Arran holidays – great views, next to the sea and beaches, woodland walks almost literally on the doorstep with the impressive Eas Mor waterfall just a few hundred yards away.

As you can see from the photograph above, the apartment offers both luxurious accommodation plus a superb view. The telescope is provided to help you to spot the shipping traffic and, at night, you can star gaze to your heart’s content thanks to the almost non-existant light polution here on the holiday Isle of Arran.

The Lovely Arran Coastal Way – an essential part of many Isle of Arran Holidays

The Arran Coastal Way is widely regarded as one of ‘Scotland’s Great Trails’ and is the 29th Long Distance Route (LDR) to be listed as such. To be included in this list of Scotland’s Great Trails these routes must meet certain qualifying criteria. For example, each trail must be at least 25 miles long and largely off-road with a clearly defined path for walkers to follow. The routes all have a high standard of waymarking and signage in place, with a range of visitor services along the way and an online presence with information to help all kinds of visitors plan a trip.

Our holiday apartment on Arran is situated on the Lagg to Whiting Bay stretch of the walk, at Kildonan. Our self catering holiday apartment on Arran is formerly a church, the Scottish name for a church is a “kirk” hence our building is called the Kirk at Kildonan.

What Facilities for Your Isle of Arran holiday does our apartment offer?

The apartment includes a microwave, gas hob, electric cooker, fridge, freezer and a dishwasher and has walks available in the adjacent woodlands. Outside there is a large deck with ample seating or why not light the fire pit and have an impromptu barbecue (logs provided) – a great way to savour the finer points of Isle of Arran holidays at the Kirk.

There is a small “convenience” supermarket about 15 minutes drive away in Lamlash and a larger Coop about 25 minutes drive in Brodick – close to the ferry terminal so stock up when you arrive in order to save a journey. You need only travel as far as Whiting Bay (approx 5-8 minutes) in order to find “The Bay” which is a well stocked village shop, especially good for those more unusual items such a baking goods, herbs and spices and a selection of Arran Cheeses. The main attraction of the Bay is, Covid aside, its lovely coffee shop – roll on the day when they are able to open that again.
