An Idyllic Getaway on the Isle of Arran, Scotland
Welcome to the Kirk at Kildonan
Built in 1910, the Kirk at Kildonan is a listed Arts & Crafts church now thoughtfully converted into comfortable holiday accommodation on the south coast of the Isle of Arran — recently recognised in its entirety as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
From the Kirk, you can look out across to Pladda with its iconic lighthouse and, just beyond, Ailsa Craig rising from the sea. In fact, the view from the front of the building includes one of Arran’s world-class geological features — part of the ancient Highland Boundary Fault line that slices through the island, revealing dramatic igneous dykes and deep time in the very landscape. Arran is a dream for geology lovers and curious explorers alike.
The accommodation includes a spacious self-contained first-floor apartment with a king bedroom, kitchen, lounge, and balcony — perfect for two, but with extra beds suitable for family stays. On the ground floor, we offer three ensuite rooms with various layouts and amenities, all with access to the porch and outdoor deck for soaking up the views in good weather.
We’re just a few minutes’ walk from the Kildonan shoreline, known for its resident seal colony, sea otters, and ever-changing birdlife. A little further along, you’ll find the famous dinosaur footprint, one of Arran’s most accessible ancient wonders. Just up the road is the excellent Forest of the Falls café, right at the entrance to the Eas Mor Ecology Project — a spectacular forest trail leading to a 103-foot waterfall and panoramic coastal views.
With star-filled skies on clear nights, wildlife all around, and the fascinating layers of the Geopark under your feet, this is a place that invites you to slow down, look closely, and reconnect.
We are both child and dog-friendly — and always happy to share tips for the best local walks, beaches, and scenic spots.
As with many character buildings, some sound between rooms is occasionally possible. Earplugs and white-noise machines are provided for light sleepers.
Flexible Self-Catering and B&B Accommodation
The Apartment
A self-contained first-floor apartment providing self catering holiday accommodation on Arran with an en-suite double bedroom, kitchen and a large lounge with balcony offering stunning sea and sky views.
Sleeps 2 +1 or 2 (sofa bed and single bed in the lounge).
The Machrie & Studio
A comfortable ground floor king room with its own en-suite shower room. It has a small private studio room attached with an additional sofa bed (no extra charge). There is a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine enabling you to do basic self-catering on Arran.
Sleeps 2/3. The main room sleeps 2 and the sofa bed in the studio can accomodate another adult (or two children).
The Blue Room
A ground floor double aspect light filled twin or superking double room with sea views and its own private bathroom with a lovely, spacious roll topped bath. There is a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine enabling you to do basic self-catering on Arran.

A ground floor double aspect light filled twin or superking ensuite double room. There is a separate seating area complete with couch, dining table, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine enabling you to do basic self-catering on Arran.
